This is a dark nebula in the constellation of Aquila. The dark nebula is called LDN673 (Lynds Dark Nebula, after Beverly Lynds), and the shape looks like it could be a logogram.

The dark nebula is not due to a lack of stars in that area, but due to a molecular cloud that lies between us and the background stars. These molecular clouds mainly absorb light in the visible wavelength, and if I were to retake this image in the infrared, we would see some stars in the area that are black in my image.

I find dark nebulas extremely fascinating.
